Salvation Army Thrift Stores

(0 Reviews)

In May of 2016 Heather Ryan and her family was among 80,000 residents who fled Fort McMurray Alberta following a devastating fire known as ‘The Beast.’ Leaving everything she had ever known behind, Heather was among 1,500 people whose journey led her to The Salvation Army Thrift Store where she found not only assistance but a new kind of home.

Working as a store associate at the Leduc location, Heather has lost much but has also been gifted with a new family in her Thrift Store team.

“On the one year anniversary of the Fort McMurray wildfire on May 3rd 2016, my family and I cannot possibly express the gratitude that I have for The Salvation Army Thrift Store and all that has been done to help me start over with my husband and daughters,” said Heather. “I want to thank you from all of my heart. It really takes a special kind of soul to help others selflessly and to now be a part of the organization warms my heart. God really does do things for a reason. I wouldn't have met a more wonderful group of people if it had not been for this, thank you!”

She recently expressed her thanks through a surprise plaque, card and cake celebration for her Leduc team who has been working alongside her unknowing of the significant role that they played in helping to get her off her feet.

Store Manager Adam Burke and team were blown away from the revelation and the sentiment expressed by Heather. “She opened up to us about her experiences and stories from the evacuation showing us how thankful she and her family are to The Salvation Army Thrift Store for being there for them in their time of need,” Burke said. “She wanted us to see how proud she is to have been hired by us, to return the compassion and good works that were shown to her 12 months ago.”
